Perfect Packers face Vikings on Monday night
Monday Night Football
seems to be offering up a mismatch this week, as the league-leading
Green Bay Packers play host to the Minnesota Vikings (8:30pm ET,
ESPN). However, the Vikings have come closer than any other team to
beating the Packers so far this season and will be looking to put up
another fight on Monday.
In the first meeting of the season between these division rivals the
Packers won just 33-27 as a 10-point home favorite on the NFL
betting board. Green Bay has claimed each of their other seven
contests this season by at least a touchdown.
Minnesota led Green Bay 17-13 heading into halftime of that game,
but then gave up 20 points to Aaron Rodgers and company in the third
quarter and couldn't recover in time to pull off the upset.
Rodgers had a big game against the Vikings in that Week 7 contest,
completing 24 of his 30 pass attempts for 335 yards with three
touchdowns and no interceptions. Greg Jennings had seven catches for
147 yards and a score in that win for the Packers, while Jermichael
Finley and John Kuhn had the other TD receptions. James Starks led
the team's rushing attack with 75 yards on 13 carries that day.
Vikings QB Christian Ponder wasn't as effective in Week 7, going
just 13 of 32 for 219 yards through the air with two touchdown
strikes and two interceptions. Adrian Peterson provided the bulk of
Minnesota's offense in the loss with 175 rushing yards and a
touchdown on 24 carries, and Ponder ran for 31 yards himself.
Green Bay then went on a bye in Week 8 before returning to beat the
Chargers 45-38 in San Diego over the weekend to boost their record
to 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS on the season. Rodgers managed only 247
passing yards against the Chargers, but he connected on four
touchdown strikes including two in the fourth quarter; Jordy Nelson,
James Jones, Jennings, and Finley all had TD receptions in that
game.
The Vikings had a bye in Week 9, last playing in Week 8 when they
got past the Panthers by a 24-21 score in Carolina. Ponder went 18
of 28 for 236 yards in that win with one touchdown pass to Adrian
Peterson, who also rushed for 86 yards and a score. Percy Harvin ran
for a TD for Minnesota as well in that day's victory as the team
improved to just 2-6 SU but 4-3-1 ATS on the season.
For Monday night the lines at Oddsmaker have Green Bay listed as a
big 14-point favorite, with the OVER/UNDER for the night at 51.5
points. The Packers beat the Vikings in both meetings last season,
also covering the spread both times in those games. Overall Green
Bay is 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last 10 games against Minnesota,
with the OVER/UNDER at 7-3 in those contests.
Oddsmaker will have the updated line and total for the
Packers/Vikings matchup as kickoff approaches, plus the complete
wagering board for Week 10 of the season.
