Patriots vs. Jets highlights NFL Week 10
The New England Patriots
and the New York Jets were expected to fight over the AFC East title
this season, but they weren't expected to have to contend with the
Buffalo Bills as well. The Bills have a tough road game in Dallas on
Sunday (1:00pm ET, CBS), and the Jets host the Pats on Sunday night
(8:20pm ET, NBC).
That Patriots/Jets matchup is one of three NFL games set for
primetime this week; along with that one we also get Monday Night
Football between the Vikings and the Packers in Green Bay (8:30pm
ET, ESPN), plus a Thursday night contest between the Raiders and the
Chargers in San Diego (8:20pm ET, NFL Network).
New England won five of its first six games this season, but then
hit a bye in Week 7 and have struggled ever since. In the two weeks
since taking a break the Patriots (5-3 SU, 4-4 ATS) have picked up
consecutive losses to the Steelers and Giants. And after putting up
30 or more points in each of their first five outings, the Pats have
scored 20 or fewer points in each of their last three games.
Against the Giants on Sunday the Patriots only scored three points
through the first three quarters, then found their groove on offense
in the fourth quarter to take a 20-17 lead. That advantage didn't
last, however, as the Giants scored a late touchdown to give them a
24-20 victory on the day.
Tom Brady went 28 of 49 for 342 yards passing against the Giants,
with two touchdown strikes and two interceptions, while Wes Welker
had nine catches for 136 yards. Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez
each had TD receptions.
The Jets (5-3 SU, 4-4 ATS) rolled to their third consecutive win
over the weekend by getting past the Bills 27-11 in Buffalo. Mark
Sanchez was an efficient 20 of 28 for 230 yards passing for New York
that day, with one touchdown and one interception. Shonn Greene ran
for 76 yards on his 19 carries against the Bills.
New York's last loss came in New England on October 9, with the
Patriots winning 30-21 as a 7.5-point home favorite. Sanchez was
held to 166 yards passing but managed to throw two touchdown strikes
in that contest, while Brady threw for 321 yards with one touchdown
pass and one interception for the Patriots in that win.
Overall the Jets are 4-6 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games
against rival New England, with the OVER/UNDER going 6-3-1 in those
contests.
The Bills (5-3 SU, 4-3-1 ATS) got a weak outing from QB Ryan
Fitzpatrick against the Jets, as he went just 15 of 31 for 191 yards
with one touchdown and two interceptions. Buffalo will try to keep
pace with the Patriots/Jets winner in the AFC East race by beating
the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon; those teams haven't met since
October 2007, with Buffalo losing 25-24 at home as a 10.5-point
underdog.
As for Thursday night, the Raiders (4-4 SU, 4-3-1 ATS) and Chargers
(4-4 SU, 2-6 ATS) will be battling for top spot in the AFC West,
with San Diego holding the historical edge in the series they're
8-2 SU in their past 10 games against Oakland, with the ATS mark in
the series tied at 5-5 in those contests. Head over to the Oddsmaker
NFL board for all of the lines and totals for Week 10; Patriots/Jets
opened as a pick'em, with the Cowboys a 6-point favorite against the
Bills, and the Vikings a 14-point underdog in Green Bay on Monday
night.
