Streaking Stewart leads Chase into Dover
With two wins in two
Chase events Tony Stewart is definitely on a roll as the Sprint Cup
Series heads to Dover International Speedway for Sunday afternoon's
AAA 400 (2:00pm ET, ESPN).
Stewart got the Chase for the Sprint Cup underway with a victory two
weeks ago in the Geico 400 at Chicagoland Speedway, and he followed
up that result by claiming the checkered flag over the weekend in
the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Stewart outraced Brad Keselowski for the win at that event, with
Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Brian Vickers, Matt Kenseth, David Ragan,
Carl Edwards, Juan Montoya, and Regan Smith filling out the other
Top-10 spots in the race results.
As for the other Chase drivers, Kyle Busch was 11th in the Sylvania
300, Kevin Harvick was 12th, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 17th, Jimmie
Johnson was 18th, Kurt Busch was 22nd, Ryan Newman was 25th, and
Denny Hamlin was 29th.
Here's a look at the updated standings after the second race of the
2011 Chase . . .
01 Tony Stewart 2094
02 Kevin Harvick 2087 (-7)
03 Brad Keselowski 2083 (-11)
04 Carl Edwards 2080 (-14)
05 Jeff Gordon 2071 (-23)
06 Kyle Busch 2068 (-26)
07 Matt Kenseth 2068 (-26)
08 Dale Earnhardt Jr. 2068 (-26)
09 Kurt Busch 2066 (-28)
10 Jimmie Johnson 2065 (-29)
11 Ryan Newman 2060 (-34)
12 Denny Hamlin 2028 (-66)
Those consecutive victories have Stewart in first place in the Chase
standings, and he's also on top of the Sprint Cup Championship
betting board at Oddsmaker at +250 to win the driver's title.
Harvick is next at +350, followed by Keselowski at +400, and then
Johnson at +450.
Edwards and Kyle Busch are both at +500 to win the Sprint Cup this
season after two Chase races, with Gordon at +600, Kurt Busch at
+1200, Earnhardt Jr. and Kenseth both at +2500, and Newman at +3000.
Hamlin is back at a longshot +15000 odds.
Kenseth won the first Dover event of the season, visiting Victory
Lane at the FedEx 400 on the track back in May. Mark Martin was
second in that race, while Marcos Ambrose was third, and Kyle Busch
and Brian Vickers rounded out the Top-5 results.
Edwards was seventh at the FedEx 400, Johnson was ninth, Harvick was
10th, Earnhardt Jr. was 12th, Keselowski was 13th, Kurt Busch was
14th, Hamlin was 16th, Gordon was 17th, Newman was 21st, and Stewart
ended up finishing in 29th place.
Johnson, though, is the two-time defending champion at the AAA 400,
and he'll be looking to give his title hopes a significant boost by
picking up another Dover victory this weekend. Oddsamker's NASCAR
betting board will have the complete race odds.
